This 'work in progress' is largely shaped by the place where it is shown. In diverse cities such as Düsseldorf, New York, Tel Aviv and Lyon, based on encounters and events on the spot, Oldendorf keeps making new episodes of his associative stream of film and video images, slides and photos in which the protagonist Marco is the only constant factor. Rainer Oldendorf (1961) is an artist working 'across' media, who integrates performance, objects, photography and moving images into different architectural and national locations. Fascinated by the notion of the 'archive', in a fundamental part of his work he focuses on time, space and history. His work is also influenced by his background as a member of the Free Cinema Art House in the late 70s in Germany and marked by the radical political events of that era. Several pieces - for example The Centre of Ivry (1994) and Free Cinema/Riksbioscoop (1994), the latter made in the Cineac in Amsterdam, deal with particular architectural locations.
