Me You Them tells the comic story of the polygamist Darlene, who muddles her way through life somewhere in the barren North-East of Brazil in a catchy and unconventional way. Husband number 1 is Osias, who married Darlene - a single mother - for practical reasons. The marriage comes down to the fact that she cooks, washes and works the land, while he lies asleep in the hammock. After a failed attempt to leave him, a cousin of Osias moves in with them. This caring Zeninho makes no effort to hide his infatuation with Darlene, and his love is soon answered. Darlene has a son, whose eyes look very much like Zeninho's. Alongside Osias as the master of the house and Zeninho as sweet house husband, Darlene also needs some activity. She finds this with Ciro, a freebooter who works on Osias' land. After he eats with the family just once, he can't be budged. When Darlene has his child too after a while, Osias thinks it is time to put his house in order. The young director Andrucha Waddington, who prefers to show details rather than to pass judgement on his heroine, was inspired for his film by a TV documentary about a woman who lives with three men. The music by bossa nova legend Gilberto Gil, the beautiful wide-screen shots of the barren landscape and the wonderful cast of Brazilian stars make Me You Them into a warm and charming film.
