The latest film by the American artist and film-maker Sharon Lockhart has a specific anthropological angle, like earlier work of hers. The visitors to the theatre from the title have been cast by a demographer: it is a demographic reflection of the population of Manaus, a town in the Amazon where the theatre too is in the colonial style. The boundary between acting and reality is hard to find. Teatro Amazones is part of a retrospective of Sharon Lockhart in the Boijmans van Beuningen Museum, including also Goshogaoka, that was shown two years ago at the festival, as well as her photographic work from the Amazon region. In addition there is her old work such as the beautiful Auditions, in which children play a romantic scene from a Truffaut film in an awkward way.
