He is a recalcitrant miracle-doer, Simon Mágus, in whose name resounds the history of the mystic of the same name from the early Christian era. But the Hungarian medium who comes to Paris in 1998 to solve a murder and who reluctantly accepts the challenge of an old rival to be buried alive for three days, is not so rebellious as his illustrious predecessor. He is above all tired. Tired of magic and supernatural conjuring tricks. What he does is so simple. He listens to people and teaches them to smile again. Simon Mágus makes an impression with the introverted portrayal by Péter Andorai as the old magician, by the sober way in which Enyedi films miraculous events and with the blissful encounter that Simon has with insecure worriers. No great questions about life, the universe and everything, let alone answers. But the smile that the film brings to one's lips moves to tears.
