Hysteric

A film made in a fluent style aimed at a young audience, but also wanting to be more than just any modern crime film. Takahisa learned the craft by making so-called pink pictures, but he also wants to produce crafted and artistic films with a social statement. He feels involved with people who find themselves on the fringes of society and would like to tell stories with raigyo: a morality borrowed from real life. The basis for this film is inspired by true events that took place on 16 February 1994. The media described the drama as a Japanese version of Bonnie and Clyde. Mami is a sweet and shy girl who becomes totally obsessed by the unpredictable and aggressive Tomoaki. They set out together on the path to crime and commit many robberies. Tomoaki is out of control and gets them into big trouble when they first rob the ex of Mami and then kidnap the neighbour in his apartment in a random act of despair. Driven by an insanity for which the director does not have any direct explanation, but which he depicts slowly and with fascination, they torture the random victim in a way that can probably only be described as perverted. To bring some hope to his raigyo film, Takahisa has the story end happier than in the reality on which it is based. (GjZ)
