Before the title of the film causes any more confusion than necessary: Topless Women Talk About Their Lives is not a documentary. It is the title of a story that Anthony (Ant to his friends) has written and in which women who are indeed topless do talk about their lives. In Topless Women Talk About Their Lives this story is filmed by a German director, with dramatic effects. However even more important is the fact that Liz (beautifully played by Danielle Cormack) wakes with a start one morning and realises she has forgotten her appointment to have an abortion. Now it is too late and her doctor refuses to intervene. Her boyfriend Geoff isn't too happy and neither is the father of the child, Liz' ex-boyfriend Neil. It isn't long before Liz also loses her office job, but fortunately the father of yet another ex provides the necessary money. In the following weeks, Liz is torn back and forth between possible partners with whom she could bring up the child. On an island in the Pacific, where her best friend is getting married, Neil asks her to marry him. But does she want to?Harry Sinclair's first feature is an ironic and tragic comedy, but does display sympathy for the characters. With Danielle Cormack in the lead, who really was pregnant when the film was shot, the charismatic group of actors ensures the spontaneity without moralism that keeps the film afloat.
