Bruce Nauman is regarded as one of the most influential living artists. His work is often aggressive, regularly noisy and always challenging. Nauman uses an enormous range of techniques, including film, video, neon, sculpture and performance art. The subjects of his work are taken from everyday life and often involve violence, sex and death.Nauman is a hermit-like artist who seldom leaves his farm in New Mexico and refuses to be interviewed, so Make Me Think demanded a special approach. Nauman is only occasionally seen in the film, in previously unseen video material, when he rehearses with performers for a multi-monitor installation he is making. Apart from that the film wants to create an environment, to reflect Nauman's creations, his video corridors and multi-monitor displays. Within this environment we come across several commentators as well as works of art. Among them are Leo Castelli, Robert Storr, Joseph Kosuth and Joan Simon.Sam Taylor-Wood, a rising star of British art: 'Nauman is very versatile. The thing that mainly interests me about his work is that it all comes down to people - people in relation to other people, people in relation to the space. That's what it's all about for us.'
