I Wish revolves around the lives of several people in the forties in today's Uzbekistan. The central character is Sadik, whose birth was accompanied by all kinds of omens. He was born prematurely after his mother was involved in a car accident. At the age of ten, he was given a watch by his father. If he faithfully winds the watch up every day, his wishes will come true one day, father tells him at the time. Many years later, when he is eating with his friends, it suddenly happens: the bowl of pilaf starts floating in the air, only because Sadik wished it. He uses his new-found powers cautiously to help his friends. His first deed is to prevent Alisher, a not-very-successful actor, from being thrown out of his theatre company and even gets him cast as Hamlet. But the unleashed powers of the miracles get Sadik and Alisher into unexpected trouble.Musadov looks with a loving eye at his home Tashkent, where the cynicism of the big city does not yet seem to have taken hold. He is emphatically searching for good in people and serenades friendship, faith, hope and love in a secure but never routine style.
