I Went Down, the second feature by Paddy Breathnach, borrows much of its strength from the dialogues spoken in a broad Irish by débutante scriptwriter Connor McPherson and is probably the only gangster road movie ever made that starts with a quote from Plato.Git has just been released from jail and gets into trouble straight away. His girlfriend Sabrina has dumped him for his best friend Anto. Would Git mind telling Anto that it's okay by him, is Sabrina's request. Git finds Anto in a pub in a tricky situation. Before he knows what hit him, Git is forced to do a favour for 'capo' Tom French. He has to pick up a certain Frank Grogan, a criminal buddy of French, as well as the large sum he's carrying. Just to be sure, Git gets a partner: Bunny, an unpredictable and cruel man who is said to have murdered his own grandfather. Git is suspicious and wants to know what the plan is, but Bunny thinks they should just take things as they come. Their job takes them to dingy nightclubs and cheap hotels and in the end they manage to get Grogan out of a heavily-guarded house. But then the problems really start. Grogan is eager to talk but claims he knows nothing about any money or deal. Git and Bunny, who soon turn into a kind of Irish Laurel and Hardy with form, have no idea who or what they should believe. And Grogan has been having an affair with their boss for 18 months...
