Fibra óptica is a love story and a thriller at the same time. The murder of an important trade union leader looks at first like an 'ordinary' crime passionel, but turns out to be a link in a widely-spread money laundering operation. Marco Antonio, an unemployed reporter, is asked to write an exclusive story about crime. At the same time, Magaña, a mediocre lawyer, is hired to defend Claudia Jimenez, who is accused of the crime. Both men are led by the 'voice' that gives advise, spies and issues commands on the electronic superhighway. While they work on their case, the reporter and the lawyer slowly find out that they are imprisoned in a power game and that the parallel lines of their investigation will never cross. In Fibra óptica, we see a Mexico where the outbursts of digital technology in the nineties have entered into a monster coalition with everyday Latin-American corruption. The film tries to tackle the extremely clear yet elusive abuse of power in the modern Latin-American 'police' state.
