De Poolse bruid

The Polish Bride is a psychological drama about the blossoming love between a farmer from Groningen and a Polish woman. Anna has been lured to Holland under false pretences by two men who want to make her work in a brothel. She manages to escape and is found by a farmer on his land. The terrified and weakened woman is cared for by the taciturn farmer. He offers to pay for her journey back to Poland, but she wants to stay and work for it. As far as he’s concerned, she can stay as long as she likes. The two of them slowly grow closer together and the farmer tries to instill in his new lodger the beauty of the Groningen highlands and his love for them. Groningen Highlands like that were serenaded by the Groningen bard Ede Staal, whose song about his birthplace inspired scriptwriter Kees van der Hulst for the film.The Polish Bride is part of a series of four films realised by the Dutch Film Fund, VPRO TV and several young production companies.
