After the fall of the Communist regime, Hungary has become the gateway to the free West for many migrants. Three young Russian musicians are looking for a place in the promising new world. Two adventurous girls from the ‘real’ West and their Hungarian hostess are good company on their journey to a new future. They meet in ‘Bolshe Vita’, a bar in Budapest. They spend the summer together, that ‘short but memorable period when Hungary was happy’: between the collapse of Communism and the shadow of the new chaos.Bolshe Vita provides an authentic picture of a half-forgotten past that is only just behind us, of days filled with optimism and enthusiasm, but also of calculation and selfishness. The fictional story is introduced by documentary footage from the period of the revolution.
