Women in Revolt

Comedy about three women who rebel against different forms of oppression and found the feminist movement PIG (Politically Involved Girls). After Valerie Solanas attempted to assassinate Warhol, it was only a matter of time before Warhol's Factory would make an anti-feminist film. The leading roles are played by three theatrical transvestites (Candy Darling, Jackie Curtis and Holly Woodlawn) who provide an ambiguous look at woman's nature, the way in which women are treated and how they react to oppression, especially sexual. In the film the women are respected and the Morrissey/Warhol duo sympathises with their ideas about systematic injustice. With the coarse language, the explicit sex and often improvised humour, the film also provides a mythical picture of New York subculture.
