Fousséni used to be a fisherman and lived by the coast. However the city expanded and the coast is now one of the poorest suburbs. Fousséni has now been converted to Islam, he has two wives and two sons. He is an upright man who swears by his new faith and its traditions and tries to make his family live by the laws of Islam. However his children are only interested in the city, where they work and maintain their families, as a point of reference. They belong to the army of outsiders and crime calls. Haramuya is about the distressing situation in a modern African city with a clash of norms, even within one family. The film is however also an ode to life and solidarity.
