Intelligent, zany comedy in which today's Paris is a wonderland for a group of Russians. In an old tenement in St. Petersburg the tenants discover by chance the well- kept secret of a former fellow tenant, a old lady who has just died. In the back of one of her cupboards is a mysterious passage to Paris. The poor Russians can hardly believe their good fortune and enthusiastically weave their way through this land of plenty. They have to hurry when they find out that the Window to Paris will not always stay open; the film speeds up and turns into a true farce. Unlike Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz, the Russians prefer their wonderland to 'there's no place like home', but in the end all of them land up back in their own homes.
