Kitano Takeshi has made a name for himself in a fairly short time with four very diverse and idiosyncratic films – varying from the portrayal of realistic violence in Sonatine to the sensitive introspection of A Scene at the Sea. Minna Yatteru kai is a comedy and is totally diffeent from Kitano’s earlier work. The lazy, soft-headed Asao only thinks about women and sex. He is convinced that beautiful women love men with cars. He goes to see a car dealer, but only has enough money for a tiny car. But his expectations for success are not met and the car gets written off. He has to have a bigger car and buys a new one with money he gets from selling his grandfather’s organs to a donor bank. Later he realises he needs money and should therefore rob a bank. When that doesn’t work, he decides to become a popular actor, because girls just have to fall for success…
