In this infectious musical film, shot on location in Peckham, South London, we become acquainted with the 'ragamuffin' sub-culture. The music has its roots in Jamaican reggae and forms the backbone of this sub-culture with a style and language of its own.The story focuses on the contrasts which dominate this area with high crime figures, bad housing and much poverty: concrete and poverty on one side facing musical talent and originality on the other. One evening, two armed men enter en busy music pub; they are after the talented musician Buckey Ranks and wound one of his friends. Next day, Buckey and his friends set off in search of the culprits. They are found and peace returns to the community.Time Out: 'In the wake of many "black movies" thriving on gratuitous violence and sexist stereotypes, We the Ragamuffin makes bold steps to counteract the norm. It's thoughtful and politically correct, refreshing and engaging.'
