A fascinating and almost surrealistic short film with an ominous form. The Gutter Song has the atmosphere of a nightmare and is characterised by a very meticulous command of technique, which smoothly juxtaposes old-fashioned rough shots from B-film-noirs and contemporary polished commercials. The pictures shown are the images that flash through the head of a professional killer just before he is murdered himself. He wakes up and is looking down the barrel of a gun. His subconscious is represented as a journey in dreams; a state which is interrupted by flashbacks of the murder of a gangster and the accidental killing of an innocent bystander. In the last flashback, the murderer wrestles with his feelings of guilt.
