Two 17-year-old youths are more or less part of the criminal subculture of a Taiwanese provincial city. Rash as they are, the two become more and more involved in violent confrontations between different bands. When they are chased out and take refuge in Taipei, they become submerged in the extremities of this metropolis and eventually find themselves, without realising what's going on, in the middle of a merciless retaliation.Dust of Angels shows in a thrilling way how youthful recklessness clashes with tough criminal practice. What starts from a mixture of boredom and bravura, ends with the inexorability of rifle shots. Director Hsu Hsiao-Ming records this 'playful' violence, this apparent contradiction, in harsh colours and framing. As if he doesn't want to obscure the true nature of this violence. For rash shots are shots and can be just as deadly.
