Small-scale, personal, inventive and meticulously-made film about the darker side of Germany's past. Letter to Germany came about, in the words of the film-maker, from small fragments of other film projects, which were partly completed, but some of which still have to be made. The film was shot on video and edited in the camera to work as cheaply as possible.Letter to Germany is more or less autobiographical; it starts off in a dream and then accompanies the film-maker on a journey through her German-Jewish background, via e.g. Albert Speer, Hermann Göring and the poet Paul Celan. She whispers the facts about her family and the past as if they are dark secrets. In this way, she has made a personal, minimal and selective history of 20th-century Germany.
