In El Kuneitra, a Syrian town on the Golan Heights which was destroyed by the Israelis in 1967, is the grave of a man who was once a Palestinian resistance fighter. His son, a film-maker, tries to recreate his father's past, for instance using the memory of his absent-minded mother. The story evokes bitter-sweet memories in him, questions and answers +!+ The film images are romanticised, stylised and deliberately too beautiful. For Mohammed Malas it is one way to banish the shame and humiliation which cling to the image of his father and to the city, occupied by the Israelis in 1967. He grasps at the personal story to sketch the history of Syria until the moment that Israel was founded. A one-sided story, but one which has never been portrayed so beautifully.
