One of the films from a series of a planned series of unknown Hitchcocks which are being released again, or for the first time, in new and restored copies by the British Film Institute (with financial assistance from Peiper-Heidsieck). Like Aventure Malgache, Bon Voyage is an odd one out in the oeuvre of the master of suspense. In order to avoid disappointment, it should be stated that this is not suspense, rather insight. The film was in England made during World War Two with French actors and is spoken in French. The aim was pure propaganda: the French audience especially in the colonies had to be summoned to resist and remain vigilant. In Bon Voyage, a Scottish RAF gunner manages to escape from prisoner-of-war camp in Germany and return safely to England via France. In a painstaking reconstruction of his adventure, told in flash-backs, an officer from the security service makes it clear to him just how lucky he was.
