A family gathering in Tunis during Ramadan, just before the end of the fast. The relatives prepare for their first meal. They gather round the table and a conversation starts up in which the disillusionment of the Gulf War plays a significant role. It centres on Sheherazade, a modern young woman who is determined to study. People around her think she is spoilt, among them her boy-friend Hedi, a follower of Saddam, whom he adores as he adores Rambo. But after the war, Saddam's supporters would also rather not be reminded of him, although Hedi does still seem to admire his courage. Mohsen, the brother of Sheherazade, has just returned from Baghdad, where he was done volunteer work as a doctor. He describes the horrors he has seen. The discussion around the table gets more heated and reproaches emerge about the leaders who advocated war. The confusion in Arab culture, the splintering of Arab unity through the war (in which Arab fought Arab), has also caused confusion in the family. The meal is interrupted prematurely. Sheherazade breaks up with her boy-friend. Sheherazade: 'Whoever the winner is, I am the loser.'
