In this short magic-realistic feature with an undercooled form of black humour, a man and wife travel together to a remote spot in the Alps. After exchanging a few words, they decide to spend the night in an hotel. In the hotel, the man, an archaeologist, becomes fascinated by the chamber-maid; she is the spitting image of the woman on aRoman fresco he had just discovered. He believes that the girl is under the influence of fatal forces. In his dream, he is visited by the girl. The next morning he decides to stay in the hotel while his wife travels on. The girl and the archaeologist then become the victims of a bizarre accident and a fatal misunderstanding.
