beautifully styled biography in set black & white pictures of the innovative composer Anton Webern (1883-1945). Freddy Sartor (Film & Televisie) described the film as a 'majestic poetic reflection'. Thierry Knauff himself said the following about his film: 'Anton Webern is an evocation of mood and tries to provide a picture of someone who lived far from the mundane world, who lived for his music, surrounded by friends, family and pupils.'The film is, despite its very poetic approach, very faithfully based on historic and biographical facts. Knauff: 'Everyone who knows about Webern, the music of his time and the historical context will recognise the events. But that isn't necessary. An example? When at a certain point one sees Webern at work with his master and friend Schönberg, a somewhat older man, it is not important the viewers recognise him as Schönberg. What counts is the cooperation, the degree of trust.'
