îA very short experimental video in which the eroticism, and especially the homo-eroticism of black Americans, is politicised. The images are sensual, sexual and provocative. The video comprises a compact and fast-cut compilation of shots of black expression in song, dance and poetry; the style is related to that of the music video. Riggs used house music and sampling techniques borrowed from rap; he processed existing material in a radical way into a new synthetic whole. In the face of the prevailing ‘homo-phobia’, Riggs tries to develop a ‘black gay aesthetic’.
