Maggie Cheung – Hong Kong superstar and known for In the Mood for Love (2000) – plays Emily Wang, a woman trying to rebuild her life after drugs, prison and the overdose death of her partner Lee (James Johnston), a struggling musician.
She travels through Hamilton, Paris, London and San Francisco, across three languages, fighting to reconnect with her young son while finding her footing on a fragile path toward sobriety and responsibility.
Assayas – whose latest film The Wizard of the Kremlin had its Dutch premiere at IFFR 2026 – crafts a restrained and compassionate portrait of recovery, set against the fading atmosphere of early-2000s indie rock culture and crowned by a Cannes-winning performance.
