Internship Art Directions

International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) presents a leading film festival and year-round programme. We support new and adventurous filmmaking talent not just in the screening room, but also through initiatives such as CineMart, the Hubert Bals Fund, Rotterdam Lab and other industry activities. In January each year, we bring together emerging and established filmmakers and artists from around the world to showcase a visionary programme of independent films, talks, exhibitions, performances, installations, immersive media and more. IFFR attracts over 300,000 visits to screenings and events annually.

In January/February 2026, we will celebrate the 55th edition of our 11-day festival, and we are looking for an enthusiastic intern for Art Directions. This is your chance to gain hands-on experience at one of the largest film festivals in the Netherlands!

About the internship

IFFR’s Art Directions team brings cinema beyond the screen, through immersive media, live performances and visual art installations across Rotterdam. We work closely with artists and filmmakers, curating and producing projects from concept to presentation.

As our intern, you’ll support the Art Directions curator in developing and producing cross-disciplinary projects. You’ll gain experience in curating, audiovisual production and exhibition planning, while working alongside different teams and attending production meetings.

  • What will you do?

    • Support the planning of exhibitions and public programmes.
    • Help manage timelines, budgets and logistics.
    • Coordinate and proofread texts.
    • Liaise with artists, freelancers and partners.
    • Assist with professional events and research artists for the programme.
    • Collect feedback and help evaluate the programme.
  • Who are you?

    • You have experience or a strong interest in curating or producing art exhibitions (especially audiovisual).
    • You’re currently studying (bachelor or master’s degree) in the Netherlands and receive supervision from your educational institution.
    • You’re organised, detail-focused and enjoy working in a team.
    • You speak and write English fluently (Dutch is useful, but not a requirement)
    • You live in or near Rotterdam or have a student OV.
    • You are available to work at our office in the heart of Rotterdam, minimum 2 days a week, and don’t mind occasionally working irregular hours, especially in the run-up to and during the festival.
  • What do we offer?

    • A hands-on internship within the Art Directions team for 5-6 months, at least 4 days per week starting in September/October.
    • An inspiring work environment in the film industry, full of energy and learning opportunities.
    • The chance to gain behind-the-scenes experience at an international film festival and work with artists directly.
    • An internship allowance of €375 gross per month, based on a 38-hour workweek (5 days).
    • The opportunity to be part of an enthusiastic team and contribute to an unforgettable festival full of films, events and parties!
