Mikael Bundsen
Mikael BUNDSEN (1989) is a Swedish screenwriter and director. He trained at Akademin Valand/Göteborg University, earning a Bachelor’s degree in film directing (2009-2012). He also has a one-year master’s in Screenwriting from Alma manusutbildning (2017-2018).
His short film Mother Knows Best (2016) celebrated its world premiere at the 66th Berlinale, where it was nominated for a Crystal Bear and the Teddy Award. It has been shown at around 50 festivals worldwide, earning a number of awards. It was sold to public TV networks in Switzerland and Sweden, and made available on DVD & VOD platforms in UK, USA, and Japan, among others. Bundsen won the prestigious Iris Prize with the film in 2017, giving him an opportunity to make a new film in Wales. Involuntary Activist (2019) became a co-production between Sweden and the UK. It was sold to the BBC, aired on BBC Two Wales and was nominated for a BAFTA Cymru Award for best short film. It was also selected for a number of festivals around the globe, including the Oscar-qualifying Outfest in LA.
Apart from writing and directing his own projects, Bundsen works as a freelance screenwriter, script consultant and tutor. He has written multiple episodes for one of Viaplay’s most successful shows, Hammarvik (2020), and has been selected for multiple talent labs, such as Göteborg Film Festival’s Nordic Film Lab initiative and the European Film Academy’s ‘A Sunday in the country’ programme.
