From 1972’s banned Iranian cow in The Cow to the ex-activist cow in Wong Ping’s Fables 2 from 2020: the largest Unleashed collection ever will be available online to coincide with the 50th anniversary of IFFR. To celebrate IFFR’s rich history, a title from every edition of the festival will be screened on the screening platform IFFR.com/Unleashed. 50 films from 50 editions – and each film will be available for 50 days. The special collection includes the programmers’ favourites, classics and rediscoveries.
The celebrating festival dug deep into its own history and selected adventurous films that often tested convention and broke boundaries. Many of the films play with or reimagine the ways in which narratives can be told. The selection contains a wide variety of films, including Goodbye Dragon Inn (IFFR 2004) by Tsai Ming-liang, and Andrea Arnold’s overwhelming feature film debut, Red Road (IFFR 2007).
