This panel brings together film professionals, industry representatives, and festival organisers for an in-depth discussion on accessibility, equity, and inclusion for Disabled and neurodivergent professionals in the film industry.
Participants will share insights into working conditions on film sets, opportunities for career advancement, and the importance of being valued for their professional expertise rather than having their identities reduced to their disabilities or neurotypes.
The discussion will address barriers to inclusion within the industry and explore solutions for creating more accessible, equitable, and inclusive workplaces. A key focus will be on improving accessibility at film markets, festivals, and industry events for both professionals and audiences. The conversation will also highlight the urgent need for comprehensive data collection on Disabled professionals and audience members to drive meaningful and inclusive industry changes.
The panel will also explore into on-screen representation, including the ongoing practice of casting non-disabled actors in Disabled roles, and emphasise the importance of authentic storytelling that reflects the full spectrum of human neurological and physical diversity. Finally, participants will discuss strategies to foster an inclusive industry that empowers Disabled and neurodivergent filmmakers while building meaningful connections with diverse audiences worldwide.
