Thirty Years of Motion Pictures (The March of the Movies)

Aanvankelijk was Thirty Years of Motion Pictures (The March of the Movies) niets meer dan een presentatie van Otto Nelson op twee National Board of Review-congressen,  in 1925 en 1926, met als titel Early History and Growth of the Motion Picture Industry. Die waren zo succesvol dat er ook aan een filmversie werd begonnen, met medewerking van historicus Terry Ramsaye (die rond die tijd het invloedrijke onderzoek A Million and One Nights: A History of the Motion Picture publiceerde). 

Thirty Years of Motion Pictures, de oorspronkelijke titel (The March of the Movies werd er later aan toegevoegd), wilde een  overzicht geven van alle esthetische en technische ontwikkelingen tot dan toe, duurde ongeveer drie uur en was nooit bedoeld voor een groot publiek, maar werd door de National Board of Review alleen vertoond om geld in te zamelen. Dit is wat er over is van deze mijlpaal in het film-over-filmgenre, die door de live Muziek van Nika Son nog mooier wordt.
