A former heavy-metal musician works as a social assistant, and his job at a centre for minors involved in legal processes is everything but gentle. For Murciélago, dealing with disenfranchised youngsters from Bariloche – a well-known tourist resort in Patagonia – becomes even more complicated due to other problems he has concerning his family and love life. However, that won’t make him lose sight of the vision of justice which guides him.
Campusano is well aware of the dark countershot in a picture-perfect city with a past, known for its ski resorts and tourist attractions, which he hardly ever shows as he decides to focus exclusively on the contrast which no one usually spares a glance. El azote offers a confirmation of precarious buildings, family corruption, neglect of the youth, and the sterile voluntarism of its hero, whose true ‘impotence’ lies in knowing that nothing will change.
