Francis Ford COPPOLA (1939, USA) is an Italian-American film maker, screenwriter and producer. He was educated in film and theatre at the UCLA Film School in Los Angeles and the Hofstra University in New York. In the early 1960s, Coppola started his professional career making low-budget films as an assistant to director Roger Corman. However, his name as a film maker and screenwriter was established by making the films The Godfather (1972), The Conversation (1974), The Godfather Part II (1974) and Apocalypse Now (1979). Besides film maker Coppola is also a winegrower, magazine publisher and hotelier.
