Silvano AGOSTI (1938, Italy) is a filmmaker, writer, poet and essayist. In 1962, he graduated in directing from the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia in Rome, where he would later teach editing. He continued his studies at the State Film Institute in Moscow, specialising in editing and studying the work of Sergei Eisenstein. After he collaborated with Ennio Morricone in I pugni in tasca/Fists in the pocket (1965), directed by Marco Bellocchio, Agosti made his debut in film directing with the feature film Il giardino delle delizie (1967), with music by Morricone. The film was invited to the Universal Expo in Montréal, despite the censorship it was subjected to in Italy. In 1974, he made a short documentary in Brescia, his place of birth, on the Piazza della Loggia bombing, Brescia 1974 - Massacre of innocents. Agosti opened a cinema named Azzurro Scipioni in 1982, in order to distribute The Blue Planet (1982), the debut of his filmmaker friend Franco Piavoli, which he also produced. For more than three decades, he continued managing the cinema, which became a reference for independent and auteur cinema. As a producer, he founded the production company 11 Marzo Cinematografica. Besides filmmaking, Agosti has also written literature, such as Uova de garofono, La ragione pura, Lettere dalla Kirghisia, and Il ballo degli invisibili, among others. In his films, Agosti prefers not to use a traditional crew and to personally handle most of the production roles, including photography and editing. He lives, plays and works in Rome.
