Ora e sempre riprendiamoci la vita

We invited Adriano Aprà, film critic, historian, director, teacher, former head of Italy’s national film archive, andideatore of Augusto Contento’s Viaggio nel crepuscolo, to programme a companion piece that would deepen the film’s ideas and themes. Aprà suggested Silvano Agosti’s too-little-seen Ora e sempre riprendiamoci la vita – smart choice! 

Agosti covers similar ground to Contento, albeit from a different vantage point: that of the witness of and often participant in strikes, debates, art actions, and also clashes with representatives of the status quo. Also, Agosti’s aesthetics are more immediate and his presentation of historical events is more factual – more documentary in a classic sense for all its lyricism. The story they tell is the same though: that of Italy’s Long '68 as a major success – a great deal improved for the worse off due to initiatives by workers and students in common solidarity. An example we desperately need to study today, maybe more than ever...!
