John Woo

John WOO (1946, China) was born in Guangzhou and grew up in Hong Kong, where he attended the Matteo Ricci College. He acted in the Chinese Student Weekly's Theatre Company and started his career as assistant director at Shaw Brothers Studios in 1969. He made his directing debut in 1973 with The Young Dragons, the first of many Kung Fu films. He gained a cult reputation for his Hong Kong action films. In the nineties, he made the move to Hollywood.
