Asma El Bakri

Asma El Bakri (a pseudonym for Fathia El Bakri) studied French literature at the University of Alexandria and history at the University of Cairo. She directed several short films and was assistant director to e.g. Youssef Chahine, Saad Arafa and John Guillermin. As production manager, she made about twenty documentaries in Egypt for the BBC. She also worked on Raymond Depardon's Une femme en Afrique. Beggars and Noblemen is her first full-length feature and has won several prizes at Egyptian and international festivals.
