A lighthearted drama set behind the scenes of the gay porn industry. Leading man is Sean (Michael Cunio), a man in his twenties who went to Hollywood to work in film. In Hollywood, however, they are not really interested in this nice and fresh but rather naïve young man. He kills time watching film classics from the video store. One day, the video box turns out not to contain Citizen Kane but Citizen Cum, a hardcore homoerotic film with Johnny Rebel (Scott Gurney). Sean falls * and over heels for the imposing body of Rebel. Next day, he applies for a job with Men of Janus, Rebel's production company and is taken on as cameraman. But it soon becomes apparent that his real talent is to be found elsewhere. He becomes the fluffer for his idol Johnny Rebel: between the scenes he has to make sure that Rebel's most important instrument rises.* [niet omhoog gaat, maar omhoog blijft] However closely he has now come to Rebel, Sean doesn't manage to get him interested in a relationship. Rebel says he only does this work for the money and alleges he isn't gay at all. This film is the gay equivalent of Boogie Nights. Without being able to match the class of this latter film, The Fluffer does give an interesting and amusing insight into the gay film business. Cowriter and codirector Wash West is a veteran in making gay porn whose involvement certainly contributed to the authenticity of the film.
