Satire on the excesses of contemporary television practice with its hyper realistic, voyeurist and normless shows. The film is set in 2020. The ratings war is fiercer, more violent and unscrupulous than ever. The European economic system has collapsed. Against the background of a severe energy crisis, Germany has to celebrate the thirtieth anniversary of the reunion of both Germanies. Only two media giants have survived the crisis so far: Alphaplus and Eurolux, that battle each other with all means fair and mainly foul. This duel makes game and talk shows more and more extreme.Minh Khai (a TV celebrity in Germany) plays Emma Trost, the `trend management' director of Alphaplus. It is her task to seek out aliens in the city and to persuade them to take part in a talk show. When Emma's boss is murdered, she is suspected and has to flee through a city filled with cannibals, crooks and terrorists. On her flight she meets the media freebooter Adam Singer.First and foremost, the film holds a mirror up to the television world, but in its form, tone and design, Planet der Kannibalen is also an homage to a lost film genre: The American sciencefiction Bfilm of the fifties.
