IFFR press accreditation

IFFR celebrates worldwide independent and experimental filmmaking and film-related arts. The festival receives hundreds of filmmakers each year and well over 3,000 film-industry representatives.

As such, the film festival in Rotterdam is an essential hub for discovering film talent, many world and international premieres, and a wealth of curated programmes – whether it’s short films, feature films, documentaries and art installations. IFFR also actively supports filmmakers in realising their film projects through its Hubert Bals Fund and CineMart.

Please read the requirements and guidelines below carefully before applying for accreditation.

An IFFR press accreditation provides:

  • Access to numerous festival activities and events (e.g. press conferences, and drinks and breakfasts for press)
  • Access to Pro screenings (P&I)
  • Access to the (online) Video Library
  • Free admission to public screenings
  • Free use of all press services

Returning journalists

If you visited IFFR before and the organisation is likely to offer renewed accreditation, there is no need to fill out a request form. You may expect to receive your personal invitation for IFFR 2020. 

Please keep your personal account up-to-date in order to receive your accreditation form in time and at the appropriate address. If you have not received an invitation by mid-October 2019 but have visited the festival before, please contact [email protected].

First time press accreditations

First-timers who want press accreditation should create an account. Please note that an accreditation request does not guarantee accreditation. If approved, you will receive an official invitation by email to attend IFFR as accredited press.

Accreditation requirements and participation guidelines

During the online accreditation process, you will be asked to upload supporting documents. Please find the requirements for different types of press below.

1. Printed media

  • Name, address, phone number, personal email address;
  • Information about your affiliated company: company name, editor-in-chief, phone number, email address, periodicity, circulation, website;
  • Official confirmation letter (PDF) from your editor-in-chief on company letterhead specifying the type, extent and publication date of the planned coverage at IFFR;
  • Recent coverage on IFFR (for returning journalists) or coverage on other film festivals or film-related publications (for first-timers) in the assigned medium, signed with your name;
  • If applicable, provide the same for other affiliations for which you want to cover IFFR.

2. Online press

  • Name, address, phone number, personal email address;
  • Information about your affiliated company: company name, editor-in-chief, phone number, email address, number of unique visitors per month and number of page views per month;
  • Official confirmation letter (PDF) from your editor-in-chief on company letterhead specifying the type, extent and publication date of the planned coverage at IFFR;
  • Recent coverage on IFFR (for returning journalists) or coverage on other film festivals or film-related publications (for first-timers) for the assigned medium, signed with your name;
  • If applicable, provide the same for other affiliations for which you want to cover IFFR.

3. Radio and television

  • Name, address, phone number, personal email address;
  • Information about your affiliated company: network/company name, editor-in-chief, phone number, email address, and information about the programme (periodicity, scheduling, broadcasting area, audience numbers, website);
  • Official confirmation letter (PDF) from your editor-in-chief on company letterhead specifying the type, extent and publication date of the planned coverage at IFFR. Please specify the name(s) and function(s) of all crew members that will accompany you;
  • Recent coverage on IFFR (for returning journalists) or coverage on other film festivals or film-related publications (for first-timers) for the assigned medium, signed with your name;
  • If applicable, provide the same for other affiliations for which you want to cover IFFR.

4. Press photographer

  • Name, address, phone number, personal email address;
  • Information about your affiliated company: company name, name of editor-in-chief, phone number, email address, periodicity, circulation, website;
  • Official confirmation letter (PDF) from your editor-in-chief on company letterhead specifying the type, extent and publication date of the planned coverage at IFFR. Please specify the name(s) and function(s) of all crew members that will accompany you;
  • Three recent press clippings of photos copyrighted by the photographer and/or the agency;
  • If applicable, provide the same for other affiliations for which you want to cover IFFR.

5. Press agency

  • Name, address, phone number, personal email address;
  • Information about your affiliated company: company name, name of editor-in-chief, phone number, email address, website;
  • Official confirmation letter (PDF) from your editor-in-chief on company letterhead specifying the type, extent and publication date of the planned coverage at IFFR.
  • Three recent film-festival or film related press clippings signed with your name and/or the agency;
  • If applicable, provide the same for other affiliations for which you want to cover IFFR.

Please note:

  • Accredited journalists are expected to announce and cover the festival in their affiliated medium;
  • Please send your published IFFR 2020 coverage to [email protected] as soon as possible;
  • Renewal of accreditation is based, in part, on the receipt of your coverage;
  • An early-bird registration fee of €50 (incl. VAT) will be charged for press accreditation; this online offer only applies until 20 December 2019. A late registration fee of €65 is charged for registrations after 20 December;
  • Press accreditation to IFFR is entirely to the discretion of the Press Office.
