A documentary so personal that you would call it a home movie, if the film maker were not a professional in art and film. After living for years in America to study and work, the director has returned to Singapore. He has to get used to his changed surroundings. He makes a film portrait of his grandmother, also an immigrant. Long ago she exchanged her village in China for a future in Singapore. The film maker and his grandmother at first feel uncomfortable around one another, but after a while the intimacy becomes increasingly natural and moving. The grandmother is a powerful and wilful woman. A real film personality. And the director is not only an innovative film maker, he is also a darling grandson. (GjZ)
