The death of Lagatha, the soldier who once violently took over the Jogbo throne (see Saworoide), embarks on a nervous quest for a credible Onijogbo (Jogbo king). All hope is placed in the very young Arese. If he is chosen, he can bring back the golden age of Jogbo. A few powerfully rooted old powers in Jogbo however thwart the election and put Adebosipo on the throne. They expect that this retired policeman will not stand in the way of their stingy exploitation of Jogbo's natural resources. But Adebosipo chooses to serve the people and refuses to plunder the treasury. A confrontation with the powerful chiefs is inevitable. They are determined to depose Adebosipo from the throne.
