The very desolate city of Sofia is cold and wintry as longs rows of people stand waiting stoically for the scarce food to be doled out. In one of the rows, a boy and an older man meet. The young man wants to emigrate to escape the misery and chaos. He hauls the old man from his lethargy and encourages him to resist everyday aimlessness. However the man soon realises that to flee is not his way out. Using Christian religious elements - as the title suggests - sketches a penetrating portrait of the fall of the former Eastern block. The film shows the universal dream of fleeing from an intolerable place and shows a topical background to the much discussed 'flood' of immigrants to the West.
