In the sixties, they were radiant stars on the Dutch literary heavens - The New Style: Cornelis Bastiaan Vaandrager, Armando, Hans Sleutelaar and Hans Verhagen. They came from the trendy world of advertising and used tests like ready-mades. Vaandrager remained true to his ideals: you have to try everything in life. This ideal eventually put him literally in the gutter. Vaandrager's life is a modern fairy- story: the literary Bohemian in the big city dies lonely in a personal hospital. Rob Keers and Bob Visser made about the legendary figure of Vaandrager. They followed him for the last few months of his life on his journeys. The film portrays a celebrity who succumbs to his ideals. Poet, actor, father, writer, tramp, junkie. Rotterdam plays an important rôle in the film, a city that has its impact on the life and work of Vaandrager.
