Michael Powell

Michael Powell (Canterbury, 1905-1990) is regarded as one of the most original and important innovators in cinema. He started his career in 1925 as assistant to Rex Ingram and went on to work as cameraman, editor and scriptwriter. From 1942 to 1956 he co-directed and -produced a number of striking and personal films including the classics Black Narcissus (1947) and The Red Shoes (1948) with Emeric Pressburger.
