Still: Waka Nanga Mi
Evani GILDS (Netherlands) is a self-taught film director born and raised in Amsterdam. He spontaneously made a short film with a good friend in 2017 and discovered that besides watching films, making them can also be a healing experience and a source of self-expression. Since then, Gilds annually makes short films and other visual projects on his own and in 2020 won a bronze ADCN Lamp at ADCN awards for his role directing Casting My Father. In 2021, Evani made his debut on television with the short film based on Alfred Schaffer's poem Mira Aki! for VPRO. In 2022, Evani was invited by World Cinema Amsterdam to present his films and explain his work process. He says his latest work Waka nanga mi (2023), selected for IFFR 2023, is a new highlight in his career and heralds a new era of stories that he wants to tell with great passion.
