Centrale Bibliotheek x IFFR

Event

Year round 2023

Are you as excited as we are for IFFR 2024 to kick off? To get into the festival mood, we're teaming up with the Rotterdam Library for the screening of two films that were part of our festival in previous years: SOLO by Vincent Boy Kars and Saxman by Carel van Hees and Martijn 't Hart. The event takes place on Thursday 11 January at 19.00, with Vincent Boy Kars joining us for a Q&A about his film afterwards.

SOLO (2023)

Nestor and Joley are in their early twenties. Living as housemates in Rotterdam, they each have their daily routines. While one abides by a rigid work pattern, the other’s approach is more haphazard; they may share a house – but they’re not sharing their lives. However, when the pulsating soundtrack culminates in a dance, Nestor and Joley let everything go.

With SOLO, filmmaker Vincent Boy Kars continues on the path he set out on with his hybrid documentaries Drama Girl (2020) and Independent Boy (2017): exploring and breaking boundaries.

Saxman (1995)

For years, Piet le Blanc, replete with sax and violin, was a well-known sight in the streets and cafés of Rotterdam by night. But before he roamed the streets, he played in various large and small orchestras. A documentary by Carel van Hees and Martijn 't Hart about the life of a special, truly Rotterdam musician.
