Tapiwa Chipfupa

Eclectic and original; producer, director and writer, Tapiwa Chipfupa worked on various projects throughout Southern Africa since 2000. She graduated with a Masters in Fine Arts with distinction (2016) from AFDA, Johannesburg on a Leadership Development Scholarship.

Her films were acquired by SABC, MNET and YLE, screened and won awards at various festivals. Her project, The Bag on My Back (2013) generated sales from European broadcasters and is a LOUMA Catalogue Project for distribution in Europe and West Africa. Based in Zimbabwe and working independently, she has several projects in development –The Other Half of the African Sky, a feature documentary and two fiction features: Sunflowers in the Dark, and Life On The Other Side of the Sun - which have already received several Awards. 

Tapiwa is keen to develop and explore diverse relationships beyond the Zimbabwean borders. She sees it as a necessity to be able to create a thriving local and continental film economy. Alongside her zeal to tell stories, she is passionate about nurturing talent to cultivate it to its true potential particularly in women and youth. Tapiwa is an alumnus of several institutions and was a member of the HotDocs Reading Selection Committee (2019-2020) and (2022-2023).
