Sam Chua Weishi

Sam Chua Weishi is a film producer born and based in Singapore. She started making films at New York University Tisch School of the Arts in 2017 as an exchange student, producing World War II short film 442: The Nisei Soldiers by Ryosuke Hoshiyama. Following her return home, she continued to produce music videos, commercials and short films in Singapore and Malaysia. Since 2019, Sam has worked at Pōtocol as an assistant producer. Her first feature film as a producer, Pierce by Nelicia Low is in post-production, and she is developing Seventeen/Seventy by Cheryl Wong (Talents Tokyo 2022) and Midnight Blue Spring by Giselle Lin (Locarno Residency 2022). She is an alumnus of IF/Then Southeast Asia, Full Circle Lab Philippines and the Busan Asian Film School.

Pōtocol - Singapore

Founded in 2014 by film producer and screenwriter Jeremy Chua, Pōtocol focuses on the development and co-production of auteur films from around Asia. Completed films include A Yellow Bird by K. Rajagopal (Cannes Critics’ Week 2016); A Lullaby to the Sorrowful Mystery by Lave Diaz (Silver Bear, Berlinale 2016); Brotherhood by Pepe Diokno (Karlovy Vary IFF 2016); A Family Tour by Ying Liang (Opening Film International Competition, Locarno IFF 2018); A Love Unknown by John Clang (2020 IFFR Bright Future); Death of Nintendo by Raya Martin (Berlinale Generation 2020); Faraway my Shadow Wandered by Liao Jiekai & Sudhee Liao (2021 IFFR Harbour); Rehana Maryam Noor by Abdullah Mohammad Saad (Cannes Un Certain Regard 2021); and Autobiography by Makbul Mubarak (FIPRESCI Award, Venice IFF 2022).
